Winchmore Hill - Anthony Pepe

About Winchmore Hill

A pretty part of the borough of Enfield, Winchmore Hill is filled with old-world charm, perhaps because of its history, or maybe due to the streets of well-maintained Edwardian family houses.  There are many buildings of historical note in Winchmore Hill, including churches, schools and even a pub dating back to 1726.

Today, at the heart of the area is Winchmore Hill Green. Picture a traditional village green surrounded by shops, restaurants and cafes; it’s here where you will find the most exclusive part of Winchmore Hill, Broad Walk, a long road that leads off the Green, where large 1920s mansions have been converted into modern homes.

Attracting growing families and wealthy businessmen, the postcodes in Winchmore Hill are pretty impressive. Connecting Winchmore Hill to its neighbour, Southgate, is the historic Grovelands Park; once a private estate, the park is now enjoyed by the people who live in the North London suburbs.

Our Favourite Places

You will find our Head of Operations, Kris White, in our Palmers Green branch; however, Kris’ heart belongs in Winchmore Hill, where he was born and brought up.  He shows us around his home.

Where can we find you on a weekend?

“I probably shouldn’t admit I,t but I’m a regular at the King’s Head on Winchmore Hill, I’m not the only one at Anthony Pepe who likes to relax here though!

The food is great, and it’s one of the few gastropubs in the area that has Sky Sports. It’s a good crowd and we always have a great night when we’re watching a game or popping in to check the results.  It is often featured as one of the top 10 pubs in North London, and I’m not surprised.”

Does Winchmore Hill have any hidden gems?

“My mum would tell you Treacles Tea Room on the Green, their traditional teas and classic cakes are very popular.  The local staff are always very friendly; it’s a great for families or a pot of tea as you watch the world go by.”

Where might you pop for lunch?

“For breakfast, lunch or even brunch I would definitely say the Deli on the Green, on Hoppers Road.  It’s exactly what would you would expect from a bustling local deli; you can enjoy pastries, salads or my favourite, their rotisserie – you can smell it from across the street!”

Our favourite street is Broad Walk.

The Local Community

Winchmore Hill is proud to have a residents’ association that has been running for over 60 years. As well as working with the local council their purpose is to keep Winchmore Hill an attractive place to live, work and play.  It’s their community spirit and the genuine friendships between the local shops and cafes that appeals to most people when they visit Winchmore Hill.

With a large amount of family homes throughout Winchmore Hill and natural unspoiled open spaces in Grovelands Park, there are lots of community events and festivals to take part in throughout the year.  Many of the local schools have been recognised as being “outstanding”, adding to the popularity and exclusivity of the area.
