Islington is a truly beautiful place to live, with wide leafy streets, ‘secret’ pubs and bars, clubs, and venues that regularly draw A-list names in theatre, comedy, dance and music. It’s also close to the City and central London, which makes it as convenient as it is picturesque.

These two words are rarely spoken together when talking about London, but when it comes to Islington, they really do go hand in hand. Islington is a place that many families call home, and the Georgian and early Victorian houses as well as new developments combine to offer the perfect North London lifestyle.

The fine period properties and exclusive postcodes are also nicely complemented by the boutique bars and restaurants that offer you something special for the weekend. The future of Islington includes newly converted flats and new-builds, as it continues to attract the high-flying city workers.

Can you recommend a place to eat out?

“There is so much to choose from in Islington it is hard to pick. However, Fredericks is an old favourite and rarely disappoints. The food and service is always good.”

Where might you pop for lunch?

“It has to be The Breakfast Club. You might be thinking, “Breakfast at lunchtime?” But why not? We are in Islington, after all! It’s like an all-day diner with an emphasis on comfort food, If you love breakfast, no matter what time of the day, head here as they have breakfasts from all around the world: a full English, American-style maple syrup pancakes or a Latin American breakfast burrito.”

What’s the shopping like?

“Amazing. Whether you fancy investing in some high-end art (well, we can but dream), want to spend a day browsing fascinating antique stalls and markets, looking for some designer clothes, or after a more low-key ‘high-street’ experience, Islington has it all. Chapel Street has a market every day of the week except Monday, with a farmers’ market every Sunday, and is a must-see.

The N1 shopping centre off Upper Street boasts stores like H&M, Gap, French Connection and also a good selection of places to eat, including Gourmet Burger and Wagamama. There are also lots of cool, indie shops on Upper Street. Interior design fans will love Atelier Abigail Ahern, while fashion lovers will adore quirky boutiques Workshop, Wandering Minds and Loop, one of London’s best shops for knitting fans.”

The Local Community

It may be a wealthy area of London, but Islington has got a strong community feel, which is why despite a lot of high street chains moving in, and being so close to the City, it’s retained its identity and quirkiness. Lots of people see Islington as a place to visit rather than live in – this is not surprising, considering what a great area it is in terms of both content and convenience.

Take a walk along Regent’s Canal and the New River, or feel truly free in the large open space of the Highbury Fields; your weekends can be filled with park-runs, markets or trips to your local theatre. As a community Islington run events throughout the year with fetes, festivals and workshops taking place in the local schools and community centres. Families and professionals are all encouraged to join their neighbours in helping Islington stay a popular and friendly place to call home.
