A Homemade Bank Holiday in London

The last few months have been filled with bank holidays and they’re not over yet! Yes, that’s right, we still have one more long weekend until August, so we’re encouraging you to make the most of it with exciting events around London or homemade fun for all the family in the house. If you’re saving for a new home or have spent the last few bank holidays out and about and need a quieter weekend, we have some suggestions that combine fun, fitness and family without breaking the bank. Whether you want to enjoy every last drop of this bank holiday out of the house or would prefer something a little more low-key we have something for everyone!

StrEat Life

Starting with our second home, Alexandra Palace has a weekend filled with street food and craft beer and what’s more, entry is free! Celebrating the summer in style the people’s palace is hosting StrEat Life for a whole weekend once a month starting on Saturday 27th May. The festival will feature over thirty of London’s top street food vendors and beer and cocktail bars. To complement the wealth of food and drink there will be bands playing on Saturday and DJ’s performing on Sunday. Open from 12 pm, until 10 pm you can enjoy a free day out with your friends and family.

 Garden Sports

It doesn’t matter how big or small your garden is, there are always outdoor games that can be adapted to suit your space. With a few simple, creative and fun parenting hacks, you can keep the family entertained at home with balloon tennis competitions and action-packed assault courses, to slip-and-slide and water-balloon fun. Making the great outdoors fun again will show the kids that there’s so much more to explore and enjoy than just video games and TVs on this bank holiday!

Brixton Rooftop

With the opening party taking place on Saturday 27th May Brixton Beach has a jam-packed weekend of beach parties and live music that will then continue into the summer. The inner city beach will also host a variety of events including foodie pop-ups, exercise classes, bottomless brunches and film screenings. Follow the hashtag #TheBeachIsBack to keep up with the summer’s number one party location.

 Outdoor living

Just because you’ve decided to spend your bank holiday chilling out at home instead of exploring out and about, it doesn’t mean you need to stay cooped up indoors all weekend. Especially if the sun is shining! In fact, if you’re lucky enough to have you very own green space gracing your North London property, we think it’s about time you started treating it like an extra living room. The opportunities are endless, from creating DIY outdoor cinema screenings by pegging up a white sheet with a projector directed at it and a few blankets and cosy cushions thrown down, to building a tepee-style den with the kids and enjoying a home-made picnic in your new hideout. By using your imagination and a little creativity, you’ll be amazed at what you can do in your garden!

Gruesome Nature life

If you have children, you will know that May’s final bank holiday weekend then leads into a week off for half term. Starting on Saturday 27th May and finishing on Sunday 4th June is a new interactive stage show called Gruesome Nature Live. Perfect for the kids the sing-a-long story invites your young adventurers to discover the stomach-churning side of the animal kingdom. Then when you return home, you could even go on your very own “bug-hunt” in the garden to find out which crawling critters are in fact your neighbours.

Long weekends are all about making the most of your local area or fun days in with your friends and family. If you’re thinking of moving home and have questions about buying or selling in north London talk to your local branch today.
