Highbury Area Guide

About Highbury

Highbury is a quieter proposition than Angel itself; some might call it more ‘refined’. Time Out described it to a ‘t’ when it noted that Highbury is “perfect for people who consider a good brunch part of their daily routine”. It’s the area the Mayor of London has chosen to make his home, so if, like him, you love getting about on your bicycle, you’re going to love living here.

From the modern apartment buildings, to grand Georgian townhouses to the smaller Victorian properties to the North, this area is an architectural delight.

highbury-village

It is Highbury’s village feel and beautiful open space that attract many young professionals and families, including a number of high profile actors. We would be in trouble if we didn’t mention that this was the home of the old Arsenal stadium, especially as our director, Charlie Perdios, is an Arsenal fan. Due to its close proximity to Islington the area is bursting with cafes, restaurants, theatres and art galleries. Highbury Fields is full of leisure activities to keep your weekends busy, and you can even enjoy a BBQ or two in the summer. This is why we couldn’t wait to open a branch in this fabulous part of London.

Our Favourite Places

We couldn’t think of anyone better than our Lettings Manager, Martin Arlington from our Highbury branch, to take us on a tour.

“I love working in this area of London; its urban feel is a complete contrast to the hustle and bustle that surrounds it. If I’m going out for dinner one of my favourite places to eat has to be Garufa. It serves Argentinian cuisine and I highly recommend their steaks, which I like to enjoy with a glass of Malbec.

I don’t always get out of the office for lunch, but when I do I tend to pop into Cinnamon Village. It’s only a small café, but it is full of wonderful organic food and not over priced. My weekends are often dominated by visiting the Emirates Stadium to go and watch my team. Yes, there are quite a few Arsenal fans here at Anthony Pepe. Another weekend treat is popping along to Finks Salt and Sweet, it’s a really chilled out eatery and the perfect place to stop and relax over a nice glass of wine.

If you head to Upper Street you will find a wealth of designer stores, as well as incredible antique markets and boutique shops. If you love rooting about for hidden treasures, you’ll be in heaven here in Highbury.”

My Favourite Street

“I just love the unique houses ideally located behind Highbury Fields; the ones overlooking the park in particular are stunning.” Martin Arlington.

Community

Highbury is an affluent area but has a strong sense of community. It also has a thriving property market, with plenty of new builds as well as traditional period houses, which help entice a steady stream of house hunters to the area.

The centre of Highbury is known as Highbury Barn and is blessed with La Fromagerie, one of the most famous cheese shops in London. The community enjoys coming together to support each other; back in 2014, businesses and locals alike joined together for Paint Highbury Pink, a fundraising event for three breast cancer charities.

Schools

We understand how important your child’s education is to you. If you are new to the area, we can advise you on properties within a particular catchment area.
